I have heard people say TMPGEnc doesn't cut files well. As in synch errors. If you encode by selecting parts of the source and batch encoding rather than cutting afterwards do you still get this problem??
I was going to just cut my mpg in half by using the source setting and encode 2 seperate parts.

I don't get any sync errors cutting with TMPG, with either mpeg-1 or mpeg-2. It's not the easiest program to cut with, and frequently it appears to have frozen, but waiting a few minutes usually sorts things. However, if you are using an early version, it is probably worth multiplexing the mpeg after cutting. This is not necessary with recent versions.

All my SVCD are VBR. When I first made SVCD they all appeared to be out of sync, but fortunately I realised this was because I was testing the mpgs with Mediaplayer or Zoom. When played with PowerDVD (and more importantly) when burned to SVCD and played in a DVD player they were all perfectly in sync. The only problems I have with using TMPG to cut are that I can't hear the sound when choosing where to cut, and the time of the cut seems to bear little relation to the time displayed with other progs where I can hear the sound.
But I've never experienced a sync problem, ever.
But using the source range is fine if that suits your method of creating mpegs. -
cripes cripes cripes. that is all I can say about it. cripes. when I cut VBR in TMPEG it is out of synch everywhere. media player, winDVD, my two APEX's and heck I burned to a CD-RW to check it on my sony. out of synch. cripes.

I can only ask the obvious - when you cut are you selecting Type - MPEG-2 Super VideoCD(VBR)? If you are, I am lost for an explanation.

I don't have problem cutting with TMPGEnc either mpeg1 or mpge2 CQ. Everything comes out as original file. Never have sync issue with software player or stand alone player.
Only one to be concern if you cut mpeg2 frame rate 23.976fps. Your output file will not have sound at the end (actuall video frames more than audio frames so you got more video frames over point that you cut). But this problem can solve under TMPGEnc itself by mulitiplex that file one more time so TMPGEnc will get rig of excess video frames.
But I still recommend to use Source range in TMPGEnc, so you don't have to worry about anything (just output filesize)
