  1. I went to download the new version of TMPGenc today and again I see that they also have VFAPI plugin for download. I never was very clear on what VFAPI is and if I need it. The site just seems to assume that you would know.

I've been using TMPGenc for a while now and I have no idea if I ever installed VFAPI or not.

I really try to read before I post a question here. If the answer to my question is right there on that site and I just missed it please show me so I will know to look closer next time.

    Thanks

  2. VFAPI as a standalone app enables you to make small 'fake avi' files from things like DVD2AVI .d2v files. These are a bit like signposts which help an app that can open avi files to open the other file format.

I believe the plugin for TMPGEnc just enables it to handle these sorts of files.

If you haven't had the problem of not being able to open something that you wanted to in TMPGEnc, then you probably don't need the plugin!

(others here will have a much deeper knowledge of this than me by-the-way, and if you're lucky someone else might answer your question better!)

    cheers,
