Here we go again. First, I am really, really new with the video card stuff. I can do basic conversions using TMPGEnc and then burn using VCDeasy.
I bought an AVERTV capture card, have settings set at 640x480 and then try to burn the file using VCDeasy. I get an error message stating it doesn't support 640x240 resolution. (These are MPEGII files). Standard VCD resolution, 352x240 work, but don't give me very good pictures on a 26"tv).
Now, when I try to open the file in Virtual Dub, I get an error-- "MPEG import filter: pack sync error".
Using TMPEnc the error is: File cannot open, or is unsupported."
I don't know what else to try (that is fairly easy) to get the MPEG II files to work.
Any way to increase the quality of the standard MPEG files so they will look better?
Remember, I'm a newbie (also have tried the PowerVCR demo, but can't seem to get those files to read, either).

One more weird thing. Tried using Virtual Dub to capture an .avi file from the card. The channel it would capture was channel 4 no matter what channel the card was set for. Now, after I reinstalled AVERtv using the updated driver, Virtual Dub doesn't even see the card.
Arrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just thought of something,
In a normal TV signal it takes 2 'INTERLACED' fields to make a frame. If you are capturing fields instead of FRAMES you could expect to get only HALF of the vertical resolution. One field is ODD lines and the other FIELD is the EVEN lines (thinking in numbers).
this may not be your problem but you might just want to check.

With my Win TV PVR ( BT 878 based) I can only capture above 240 if I set it into preview as opposed to overlay mode. In fact, for 704 X 480 with my humble 700 Mhz CPU, I usually cap blind in Virtual Dub. The reason is as stated, one field is being sent to display in overlay mode.

I have seen a lot of people getting problems using TV Cards to capture in higher resolutions. Try to use a better capture hardware.
