  1. I have two mpeg-files, they are supposed already to be in the SVCD-Format. When i try to open them with virtualdub i recieve the errormessage "MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error".

How do i know, if the mpeg-file is already encoded.

Also, when i open the mpeg-file with windows mediaplayer 6.1 the screen gets large, especially wide. Does that mean, it is configured wide screen. I want to watch it on a TV-Screen. Do i have to encode it with tmpgenc. then what settings do i have to use?

    Thanks for any help

  2. If it is SVCD, then it is alreday mpeg-2 format. That is why virtualdub will not open it as it does not support mpeg-2 (for legal/licensing reasons I believe).

If it is standard compliant SVCD it will have a resoltion of 480*480 (or 576 for PAL). SVCD does not support widescreen (or so I believe) so if it looks widescreen under WMP, it is probably letterboxed.

To check the propertesi of an mpeg-2 file, go to tools on your left and look for an utility called mpeg-prop or something like it.

    hope that helps
