Have a movie at 700megs (avi format). Using the same settings as the movie is set to my mpeg's are ALWAYS almost exactly double the size of the source avi, any ideas? Does NERO always do this?
Also, using adobe premeir 6.1 when trying to import the avi's i always get a messege that it cant be opened due to compressed audio? how do i get around this?
Thanks all,
Red Fraggle

I would use TMPGE to encode and VCDEASY to author.....great combination .Works every time for me.
You may have to extract the audio using Virtualdub then save it as a WAV to use as you audio source when encoding."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -
Assume you are using Nero to encode to VCD format mpegs. In that case it is the length of the video, not the size of the source file that matters. VCD format is 10Mb per min of video, irrespective of the source video. That is probably why the file size increases.
As wee haggis says, better to learn how to use TmpGenc to encode, it produces better quality than Nero by a long way, you also get to adjust the encoding parameters if your DVD player can handle non-standard VCD's. -
encoding is more based on time than size. if you have two 60 minute movies, one 200 megs the other 800 megs, and use a svcd template to encode, they'll both roughly be the same size. just try it and see. if you want a 700 meg movie to stay at around 700 megs, then you will have to adjust the bitrate(kb/s) so that you stay in the in the size that you want.
question - if you encode at 2756 kb/s how many minutes do you expect to fit on one cdr. fell free to use your caculators if you want to.Where I walk, I walk alone. Where I fight, I fight alone.
