  1. Hi, im using smart ripper and dvdx 2.0 to backup my movies. However when i rip the movies and convert it into .mpg with dvdx the quality is ok, however at times it gets pixelated. Is there a way to rip a dvd into a vcd, without losing the quality???

    Think about it.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

in the theory you can make a high quality vcd using higher resolution / bitrate. It 's called Xvcd ( or non-standard compliant vcd )

I usually make XVCD using 1500 or more bps for the bitrate , it allows a movie in 2 CD with quite good quality .

You can make high rez ( DVD resolution like 720*576 pal ) with high bitrate like 6000 bps but it will take 10 or 12 CDs !!!!

  7. Don't be misled... getting DVD quality out of a VCD or SVCD using a reasonable amount of discs (read: 2 discs) is not easy. That's why there's just short of a billion posts on this topic already.
