I use nero 5.5.9.0 and burn vcds at 8x. When I watch the vcd on my computer blocks show up on the screen every 20 seconds or so. There like different colored blocks that go across the screen then disappear. Can someone help please?

Sometimes if you burn at a speed any higher than 4x it tends to become discabooberated..lol.....try burning at 4x

No.
The higher burn speed phenomenon should only occur if you are trying to play back the disc on a reader that can't really handle CD-R/W disc properly.
If you are getting the same phenomenon with your PC (to which I presume that your CD drive is working properly) the cause is elsewhere.
1. You may have some dodgy discs that don't burn well at higher speeds
2. There may be something wrong with your CD drive
3. There may be something wrong with the way you made your VCD.
How are you making your VCDs (encoding, settings, etc.)?
Do they play properly on ANOTHER PC or on a stand-alone DVD player?

I capture the video to vcd quality using the dazzle digital video creator then i burn it with nero.
Before the video is burned to vcd it works perfect, the blocks appear after i burn it to vcd and watching it on my comp.
I have tried burning at 4x as well and i still get those block thingys popping up here and there.
please help -
I have had this problem. I can only put it down to having a box of discs that contained a flaw. They also refused to record music properly.
I switched to a different batch of discs and the problem went away. -
Most probably bad CDRs. The blocks that you see on screen are the result of the laser beam becoming distorted as it tries to read the data but is reading the flaws instead. You will also find that home-brew VCDs on almost all brands of CDR are very flakey, and SO EASILY scratched. These small scratches are almost invisible to the eye, but certainly distort the laser beam as it tries to read data through the scratch

what is the resolution of your video source? do you capture from a DV CAM?
we have the same setup BLADERUNNER... and capturing and producing VCD'S dazzle will give you bad quality...
am surprised none of the those who answered your query earlier mentioned bout the possibility of DEGREDATION if your source is DV...
try looking around at this sites... dazzle link... (look for it on this site under links) kvcd.net, spawns.dk/svcd.. you might find tons of info there... -

Good point but probably not related to the problem.
The most likely possibility is still either a media compatibility issue or that the MPEG file isn't VCD compliant in some way.
