When I used the Ulead DVD Plugin with large mpg files it keeps stalling when previewing and making menus.
Anyone else have this problem ?

The problem is gone when you close GOPs while encoding with TMPGENC but the resulting files has a lot less quality than without closing. Any Clues ?

What are you exactly doing ?
Are you encoding SVCDs ? Are you using TMPGENC ?
GOP is Group of Pictures and you can closed them while encoding with TMPEGNC in settings/GOP structure....... -

Instead of closing all GOPs (bad quality is a side effect), have you tried MPEG sequence maker? This only works for mpeg1 files though.
Something that you may also try is multiplexing with bbMpeg. bb will add time stamps to all GOP headers, this might cure the problem you had before closing all GOPs, and works with your SVCD files. -
Thanks again disturbed1 !!
Do you mean demultiplex video and audio and then multiplex again with bbMpeg ?

this is what I'm doing in Ulead VideoStudio
I put several clips in the ulead storyboard and add effects like dissolve between the clips. When done I click on the "make a movie" button. This encodes the videos to the correct format. There is no need to encode them first with TMPGEnc since Video Studio will do it again anyway. Once the encoding is done (this takes about 8 hours) I click on the DVD Plugin and select VCD. That brings up the preview box where you make the menu selections by moving the preview bar to where you want it in the movie...click on the select menu button and it adds that frame to the menu screen. The prolem is that when I do this with a large file of about 600MB every button I click on or every time I move the preview button it takes several mins for anything to happen. And it will let me pick one menu point and when I try to do a second menu entry point I get an error saying "error reading frame # ????". when I try this whole process on a smaller video file of about 100mb everything works fine and I can make several menu entry points. I wrote to Ulead last week but did not get an answer.
Hope someone knows how I can fix this
thanks -
-------->jpaguila,
Yep, demultiplex, or just create a separate video and audio file.
I don't promise it'll work, but it is worth a try. I use bbMpeg to mux all my SVCD's, and don't have any issues with FF/RW or anything else.
---------->BMzx
The reason jpaguila uses TMPG is he didn't like the quality of LSX compared to TMPG's.
I have that slow responce problem with menu selection also. It's something with the way Ulead accesses the files. I have made multi menu (S)VCD's with the DVD plugin, upto 738mb. Your problem with "error reading frame # ????" is an encoding issue. The LSX encoder most likely didn't stamp that GOP with the correct time sequence. The source file could have a corrupt frame at that spot and prevents further reading.
You said your joining multi files, if there are any deviations in between the files you could get errors at these cut/join marks. If you pre-encode your files to compliant standards, then add the files to the time line, click make movie, LSX will act as a multiplexer/joiner instead of an encoder.
Have tried different files from different sources. Do you have this problem with every large file? Are they all encoded with the Ligos LSX encoder plugin? If so contact Ligos with your issue.

Thanks for the reply.
The files I used were encoded first with TMPEGnc but then encoded again ( I assume they were since it took 8 hours)
I'll try again with different clips and see what happens.
Also...one other problem I had....I put 8 clips into the storyline and when the "make a movie" was done only the last 2 or 3 seconds of the first clip showed up? I did it twice and whent through the 8 hour encoding twice and it happend both times ? -

TMPG doesn't always make compliant files. You could just load the raw un-encoded clips into the timeline and let LSX encode them.
@8 hours, I hope it re-encoded them
LSX really isn't that bad of an encoder. Most of the time TMPG has soooo many problems your multi clip files will need to be re-encoded anyway. Any time you encode then encode again, you will lose quality. LSX is a very compliant encoder, it's one of the few I've seen pass Philips SVCD verifier. And that is hard to do.

Good idea, try like I said above, and leave TMPG out for this test run.

Hmmmmmmmm, was that a fluke? Or does it happen often? If it happens often, have you noticed any pattern like certain types of codecs used for the clips, certain fps, or resolution.......? -

This happend twice with the same group of files. I had one large file. I cut it and edited it with VCD cutter then encoded each part with TMPEGnc then put them in the story board. I'm going to try again put editing a new video with VCDcutter and gor right to the storyboard and not use TMPEGnc liek you suggested.
I'll let you know how it works out...will be a day or two

Hi everyone, I'm looking for this software for a long time. Can you please help me find it. Can you tell me where can I download it?
-
Bmzx... don't know if it's much comfort, but I have had the exact same problem. Until now, haven't found anyone else with this problem. I wrote to Ulead more than two months ago (and every couple of weeks since) with no response other than "still looking into it".
I'm capturing using virtual dub, editing the smaller files into one large 60 minute home movie using MSP6, creating the mpeg using MSP6 and exporting to DVD Plug-in. That's when the "fun" starts. I can locate frames through the entire video, but when I click 'add' anywhere beyond the first 10 minutes or so, I get the error reading frame message. -
I did get an answer from Ulead....I lost their e-mail but they told me to go to thier website and download some patches.

Thanks BMzx. After reading your post, I decided to uninstall everything and reinstall everything (including patches) in the order they were created. It works.
