  2. he could be on one of those 1Mbit lines. I've also heard about T3 lines as well as OC3 (rumour says OC3 can go to about 1gb minute, doubt it tough)

There is also a decent chance that they are not very far from you.

copied from a website describing the different pipelines

    T-1 - 1.544 megabits per second (24 DS0 lines)
    T-3 - 43.232 megabits per second (28 T1s)
    OC-3 - 155 megabits per second (100 T1s)
    OC-12 - 622 megabits per second (4 OC3s)
    OC-48 - 2.5 gigabits per seconds (4 OC12s)
    OC-192 - 9.6 gigabits per second (4 OC48s)

bear in mind, there are 8 bits in the byte/ so divide these numbers by 8 for the actual bytes per sec

I have that kind of speed with a cable modem before on MIRC, but not Kazaa. My high on Kazaa was around 250.

  6. Yeah, one time with my cable modem, I was getting 500+ kilobytes per second. But now they cap their customers to about 250. He could just be on an uncapped modem

  7. if you are on cable and on the same node or very close to where you are downloading, you will get a quicker connection. why? cause the data doesnt have to be routed anywhere, it all stays local.

Same for most people... when I USEd to have a cable modem (lost it when I moved, stupid small town) I once got connect to a hotline server that suddenly broke what I thought the thing was even possble of... stayed that way with this guys server for 2 days then went back to normal... all other access was standard speed.

Also a guy I know lives in a capped cable modem area but until recently he himself had never had a cap set... and well... WOW!

  12. Well, I use Earthlink Cable which is provided by Road Runner. My download cap is 2Mbits per second, so I reguarlly get that.

It's starting to become common (From what I've seen) for Cable to be around the 1Mbit download.

Or you could be in Canada and have Shaw or be in the Tri State Area and have Opt. One of those.
