Hi
Can't help you, but I have the same problem. Maybe we have something in common in our configurations that causes it.
My setup is something like this:
Celeron 900 system
ATI rage pro 128
Hauppage WinTV FM (the one with nicam stereo) PCI.
Windows 98
I was also using a demo downloaded from their website a few days ago (early feb. that is).
It probably has something to do with something else in the system (like some old installation of something, but there's no way I can list all those...).
Also, if you already found the answer to the problem, feel free to drop me an email. -
It is not worthed dowloading or buying full version. I have the full version and it sucks. No settings at all for captuing. You can only choose a preset and that's it. It is not working well with all drivers. With build in drivers for NT for my AIW it was able to capture, but as soon as updated drivers to install MMC 7.2 from ATI, it was not able to capture at all. However the TV tuner part was working fine except recording (Unable to set capture graph - was the error message). Every other software was happy with new drivers.
Again it is not worthed - you can only capture by using build in presets. If you create your own it sucks. No control over capture driver at all. No control of droped frames - only stupid elapsed time display.
The worst capture software I've ever used. -
im working ravisent DVR now, witch is winvcr.
it works good as far as realtime capture applications go.... -
Same to me.
I have a ATI TV WONDER, AMD-k6-2 500, 3dfx Voodoo 3000.
I'm trying to fix it but not find yet...
Soon I find fix, I post it. -
I have ati tv wonder pci and tryed using power vcr II v3.0. When I first downloaded it, i thought that it was good program. Then i tryed to capture with it and the audio was missing. OK, got help from here, said to go get patch from website. I downloaded 2 patches and installed them both, then I got an error message everytime I tryed to even use powervcr. It said "powervcr caused an error in "unknown" it will now close". I unstalled it and reinstalled, it was up again, just would not record audio when trying to capture. I checked my volume levels and recording levels and everything was fine. I even did the registry tweak to try to fix the audio and to get 480x480 resolution. Then I tryed just installing the audio patch I had gotten from the website, and the stupid thing started the error message again! Now through all of this I rebooted several times, so it didn't just need restarted to fix everything. I tryed everything in the book and could never get the stupid thing to record my audio. I know that audio is connected to sound card and works properly because I am able to capture with MMC 7.6 with no problems at all. Besides poor quality and being limited to XXXx240. I don't know what else to do but abandon it and accept MMC7.6. If anyone nows a better capture software that works with ATI TV Wonder PCI, please let us now about it. I am running window's ME. Check my specs for more info. I wish I had the answer, but for right now, powervcr sucks!

Don't expect too much from these apps they are not inline mpeg editors.
I am not endorsing PowerVCR II but at least it offers a smoother and noise reduction even though you can't control it. As far as size is concerned they made it easy to create new custom sizes by putting an entry in the registry (it may be in 2 places) where you can actually insert sizes like 480x480 and sound volume. Just look in the registry under Powervcr and keep pressing F3 until the right entry comes up. Don't cry if you get in trouble cause its too hard to help besides you won't have use of a pc for a while.
As far as other apps are concerned if you use "WDM" drivers (Look under google search "wdm capture drivers" they may help ( I put some links below). They work well with apps "INTERVIDEO WINCODER" demo, or WINDVR (No demo) for MPEG1 or mpeg2 or freeware "AMCAP or "Virtualvcr" for avi captures or iuVCR shareware demo also for avi. If you use this driver the valid capture device to choose will be known as "conexant". They may solve your audio problem with Powervcr II cause they include an audio driver.
If you want to go with vfw (vxd) drivers the kind that work with virtualdub
then look for apps like NANODVR or WINVCR now CINEPLAYER DVR. Or PowerVCR I for Mpeg1 only.
PS: I know the "wdm" tuner/capture drivers will work with win98 but they don't come with win98 you have to get them elsewhere.
Read up on these drivers here:
The one I used before:http://www.iulabs.com/eng/index.shtml
And the one I use now:
http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/index.html
Read all info carefully if you use these because your old drivers have to be unlinked from your device and the inf removed from the search path. Otherwise you have to do a manual install pointing to the location of the new video/audio deviices (the new drivers). -
I have some news.
powerVCR II does not support Win 98. Only Win 98 SE.
Then its the explication of the runtime error.
Its the official version of the conceptor of powerVCRII.
Whe have to switch to Win 98 SE or better...
Bye

That's an excellent point. Almost every time I have commented somewhere I use the short form win98 not win98se. Since I have both but only use the SE version I completely forgot that a first edition even exists.
This could help to explain a lot of other posts claiming problems with win98 and this app or that app. We need to be so specific. -
Well, I actually had installed WinME, 2000 and XP on the same computer, installed an AverTVStudio card, installed PowerVCR2 Pro, and everything was just fine. So fine I've used the avermedia to RT encode straight from Betacam SP for my lower budgeted DVD clients. (For the big guys I keep it the digital way transcoding in software).
Problem is, I get rid of Win ME and 2000 opting for XP pro only, and now I cannot make PowerVCR start! It says "Runtime error, abnormal termination".
I tried reinstalling visual basic and visual C++ libraries (old and new), mpeg, ac3 and vob filters, reinstalling everything again, and It does NOT work.
I used to be the wise guy who helped others with pro video matters. Now I beg for a drop of wisdom on this subject. Cyberlink ignores completely the solution to this problem, or so they say. Many users have the same problem.
Has anyone solved this issue? In this industry, Sadly, The future was yesterday.
