I have the same player (but R4), and have played PAL and NTSC VCD's no problem (and in glorious - if you can say that about NTSC - coloUr), however, my other DVD player (Hiteker AD-600A), which is connected to a much older TV will only play NTSC's in B&W (thankfully you can force the output of that player to PAL).

In direct answer to your question, yes it probably is a NTSC VCD, and your TV just can't cope with it!

Anyone, shoot me down if I'm wrong.

  3. You should find a switch on the back panel of your dvd player to force the output signal to PAL.

  4. thats right m8, i have the dv-530 pioneer look at the back of the dvd player and see if there is a switch that u can use for pal ntsc or auto, i live in the uk and leave it on pal and it plays them all fine vcd, cdr cdrw etc, ntsc tends to play them back in black and white depending on the source, and auto is a bit dodgy as sometimes it cant make up its mind wether to play in colour or black and white but since switching to pal no problem, hope this helps

  5. I have the same problem, only a different player, the pioneer DV-340. That one does not have a switch at the back, anyone got a suggestion for this one?

    Thx up front,
