  1. i read on this site that someone named Mike has a Philips DVD player 825, and to be able to fast forward or rewind VCDs he upgraded his DVD player witha firmware disc version 9.23, i upgraded my DVD player with the 9.28 version and wasn't able to fast forward or rewind, i want to know if i need to use the 9.23 version upgrade disc instead of the 9.28 version to be able to fast forward and rewind, thank you!

  2. I just updated my bios as well...and I can fast foward and rewind (sort of). Use the yellow "left arrow" "right arrow" buttons instead of the normal ff rw. It's choppy, but it works! Tested out in VCD, don't know about SVCD as of yet.

  3. To enable FF & RW on a phillips player your mpeg file has the have sequence headers for each GOP before you author it to VCD. Tmpgenc does this by default, I think Xing has an option, and panasonic doesn't support it.

There's also a tool on the tools downloads that will insert the sequence headers without re-encoding the stream. That, and the updated firmware should let you ff & rw.

Another benefit to having the sequence headers in place on the 825, is that without them it will restart or skip to the next track when it encounters an error in the mpeg stream. With sequence headers in place it just skips to the next GOP.

There's also an option in the 825's setup menu to disable PBC, which will let you see the time index but will probably break your menus. It doesn't stick, so if you power off the player it defaults back to enabled.
