Hi all,
I'm ripping an anamorphic 1.85:1 DVD and was wondering if there's anything 'wrong' with leaving the anamorphic ratio intact for the VCD?
if i leave my dvd player set to 16:9, and use the 16:9 stretch on the TV then it will work just the same as the DVD.
BUT if i set my dvd player to 'letterbox' for use on a 4:3 TV, will it letterbox the image properly, like it does for DVD?
cheers
EL.

It will only work for tvs that you can manually change to 16:9 because the dvd player will not recognize the vcd as anamorphic.

yeah, i guess what i was asking was ... is it the dvd that tells the player if it's anamorphic? In other words, if the dvd player is set to 'letterbox' mode, it looks at the dvd to see if it's anamorphic and if it is then the player does the stretching and letterboxing, if it isn't it just sticks it out to the TV as is. Looks like i've answered myself
So for compatability i should letterbox it at the encoding stage.
cheers
El.
