I try to convert my video tapes to SVCD or VCD. I have a ATI all-in wonder Radeon on P3 800, Windows XP. For SVCD, I use the ATI TV7.6 to capture the video and it come with so many setting such as VGA resolution 640X480, quarter VGA resolution 320X240, DVD mpeg2 720X480, medium mpeg2 480X480..... Please advise which one to use or have another suggestions. I use Tmpge 2.54 to convert AVI to mp2 and burn with Nero5.5. The "blocks" or "pixels" come out during fast motions picture. How to solve it? If that's not the best or right way to do, please give me suggestions. Thanks!![]()

I suggest you use Virtual Dub to record your tapes to AVI using a lossless compression like Huffy or near lossless like a MJPEG. Then encode afterwards to MPEG2 using TMPG or CCE. There's guides on this site to do all this, I suggest you go take a look at them. The ATI MMC is fine for watching TV (not even close to the best though) but for recording it well pretty much sucks.

Don't capture using MMC unless you just want a show to watch later (i.e. that ratty VHS tape that you keep taping over again and again) If you want good quality capture you'll have to use Virtual dub or AVI_Io and capture to .avi using either Huffy or MJEG codec. I recommend capturing to 352 x 480 in MJEG at 18 quality. But experiment and see what works best for you. If you have the system it won't hurt to capture at a greater resolution.....
