  1. Ok. I'm using TMPGEnc to convert an avi to mpeg (VCD). I use virtual dub first to extract the audio, and then use TMPGEnc to convert the avi and wav to mpeg.

The problem I'm having is that the side of the video of the mpeg (this being how big the picture looks when played back on the PC) is not as big as the size of the video of the avi. Is there something I'm missing here?

I tried to search the forums, without luck.

    TIA

Not really. The size DISPLAYED by TMPGEnc has little to do with what will be displayed by your completed VCD once you burn it with the TMPGEnc template.

  3. I understand what your saying, and let me clarify what I said.

When I play back the original AVI file in windows media player, it takes up about 1/2 of the screen.

When I play back the MPEG (which was converted from the AVI), it takes up about 1/4 of the screen.

What I'm asking is why is it that when the movie is in MPEG form, it's smaller then when it's in AVI form?

When ever I use TMPGEnc, the display always stays the same, unless the encoded video is smaller than the TMPGEnc. Nothing is wrong, only how the program is designed, where VDub always shows the true aspect of your video project, regardless of the size.

  5. The resolution of VCD is 352*240 (for NTSC, its 288 for PAL). The default display method of WMP is to show the video according to its resolution. If your avi has a higher resolution (which is quite possible) then that will explain what you are seeing in WMP. Burn it to CD as a VCD and watch it on your TV and everything will look fine.
