  1. I have a Radeon 8500LE and just bought a DVD drive; I've got no problem playing a DVD on the computer's monitor. I also, with a little more fiddling than should be necessary, been able to get my desktop showing on the television using the TV-out from the card. The only thing that doesn't show up on the TV is the DVD itself. If it's playing full-screen, I get a black screen on the TV; if it's playing in a window on the monitor, I get the desktop on the TV but just black in the window where the DVD is playing.

Anyone know what the problem is?

This is a known problem on the ATI website. They have workarounds on the site. Sorry, I can't acces it from work but I used the advice there to solve an identical problem.

  3. Found the answer, and just in case anyone else is looking for it, it's simply enabling the "Theater mode" on the overlay tab in settings. Apparently you can also get better color and/or resolution by making the TV the primary display, but I haven't tried that yet.

I found that by setting both the tv and the monitor to Primary....any problems go away and what you see on monitor is what you see on tv screen....I know it sounds stupid....Why would they have it so that you set two different things as "Primary".....You got me...but it works that way .....And it does everything I thought it should ..after I did that.

  5. Yes, that's it ...... Just set both TV and Monitor as PRIMARY source. This way, what you see on your monitor is what comes out on the TV.

And no MaDmiZe .... it does not sound stupid. It makes sense. The reason why it allows one to set-up TV and MONITOR as PRIMARY because the said function of TV-OUT is primarily used for PC presentations rather than showing DVDs or movies. Therefore, the operator of the computer should see his screen while the one's viewing the presentation are looking at a BIG SCREEN TV or PROJECTION SYSTEM.
