Hi
I have read some other posts but am not sure as to the answer.
I connect my capture card (averTv Studio) via the s-video input. At the VCR end is a scart adapter which has a composite, s-video, and left and right phono sockets.
Every now and then it switches to b&w which is highly annoying if i'm trying to record.
Any ideas???
I have read other posts with a simlar but not identical problem saying the video must support s-video. If it has a scart out surely it should. There is a composite in and phono sockets on the front of the video too.
Most people complaining of this problem dont seem to be able to get any colour. I can but it switches at various times. especially if i play a video.
Cheers

Hi
I put the scart in the back of the tv. The problem is still there. Could a faulty scart be the issue?
Is it possible for faulty scart to switch to b&w??
Bit of a shot in the dark as i'm no techy.
It is a gold plated scart tho and gold plated s-video lead.
Cheers

Hi
After some further moving of wiring etc........
I now have my s-video lead going straight into my cable box via the scart adapter. Slighltly better picture than before, no b&w. Almost perfect on some channels but.....
I now can't capture from the VCR. If s-video wont work properly thru the video would composite work via a scart adapter?? Co-ax is very noisy.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Well it seems I was wrong I just got black and white again......
Main suspect now is the scart adapter anyone disagree with that?

A Scart socket on your VCR doesn't necessarily mean that it can output S-Video. However the fact that you can sometimes get colour suggests that it can.
S-Video passes video signals through two pins - chroma and luma. If one of the pins or wires were faulty then you could indeed see a black and white picture. Does the picture change as you wiggle the cable? If so, you definately have a faulty cable or socket.
A Scart plug can carry RGB, SVideo and Composite video signals. You will probably have to configure your video to output the correct signal though. I use a Scart to Composite Video & Stereo Audio cable to perform my capturing at home. I am more than satisfied with the quality I get from the composite source. -
Cheers for that. I think it was semi-compatible. I have now linked up via composite and the picture is better than ever.
