I am currently burning my home movies using the following steps.
Capture and edit in imovie, export to QT file for idvd. Transfer over to my Windows machine through my home network, encode into mpeg2 using ulead movie factory and then author in the same program. Burn disk and I am done. Not too hard and the ulead program is similar to idvd in that it creates simple menus and is easy to use. I am new to the mac and I am using an Emac. It drives me crazy that I have to use the Windows machine with a 49.00 program instead of idvd. I have a copy of idvd2.0 that will allow me to create the idvd project without having a superdrive however I cannot burn to image or export. Is there any way to get idvd to either creat and image or work with my Lacie Firewire DVD burner. I want to use my new mac and free myself from the Windows machine totally for this. If I knew the emac was coming out with the Superdrive a month ago I would have waited. Oh Well!
