Is it possible to hook a standalone dvd player to your pc? So that you can see this as an extra drive?

No, but some of the drive mechanisms inside are IDE, so you can unplug them and connect them to your IDE leads like a CD-ROM

Power DVD 4, is good, but wait until you see what you get with it, its probably Power DVD.

Why would you want to play the DVD rip ?, if you have the DVD well you can anyway, but I am sure you will be wanting to put them on another DVD or VCD or SVCD or tape

Yes, you are right. I want to rip the dvd to my harddisk. But i need to know if it is possible to convert the vob files to mpeg2 files. Then i want to put these files onto a SVCD. But i dont know if this is possible and what program to use. I do have the nero svcd/mpeg2 plugin. Maybe you can tell me what stuff to use for all of this? I dont know of it is possible to send the signal of the dvd movie to my tv. I do have a geforce3 DDR with tv-out.

    thanks!!

Yep, What's that ripper called... Oh yes SmartRipper

DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc are all used to do what you want

<<<<< Take a look at the guides here

The only problem with capturing the DVD signal is Macrovision, when you rip a DVD it hacks this out, when you try to capture the DVD your going to hit on this problem, unless your capture card has been hacked.

SVCD in TMPGEnc Plus 2.57 may require you install a mpeg-2 codec, the one that comes with Power DVD is just fine.

Oh when you do start ripping, use MP3 for the audio not AC3, so many people out there having problems with it
