I posted this in the dvd ripping forum by mistake.
I have a DVD movie backed up on my hard drive as 2 AVI's of approx. 680 MB each.
I've tried everything I know so far to burn these files to VCD.
I have used Roxio Videopack 5, where I try the burn option, which means it tries to convert the file first. The file (and my sustem) freezes completely after 10 minutes or so (out of a 50 minute conversion).
I have tried various conversion methods within videopack, same result.

I have tried Nero (5581), it doesn't even begin to convert or burn.
I have also used AVI2VCD and even tmpgenc to compress the audio file and it tanks after a few minutes.

    What am I doing wrong?

    thanks.

The AVI plays fine in Windows Media Player, by the way.
I have also tried compressing the audio. After compressing the audio, both Videpack and Nero still tank on me.

I tried all of the above AFTER reading the guide. That's how I got to progs like avi2vcd and tmpgenc.
    Neither works.
Could it be a memory issue?
It looks like the Roxio Videopack starts the conversion process and runs fine (50 frames per second) for up to 25% of the file, and then it freezes my computer. It's almost like it tries to write the entire conversion to memory buffer and then freezes when it runs out of buffer...

    Help??

  4. hi, just a question off the topic (sorry) I also use Video Pack.
Have you ever downloaded a mpeg2 SVCD film but burnt it (using Video Pack) as a VCD?

there are a few films that i want to get but they are svcd's not vcd's.
I understand that VCD's are mpeg1 and SVCD's are mpeg 2, so they arew both mpegs that would be downloaded, but i can only play vcd's in my dvd player.
