odd question i know but as owners of the sets know the LOTR Extended Editions are across two DVDs, my question is that is it possible to force this into one divx/xvid? i have DGmpgdec and MeGUI(i use DG to make d2vs if Meg is already running a job or i need more control). my main issue is i figure the second DVD would start the VOB names over again and confuse the software.

You rename the VOBs in part 2 to follow the ones from part 1. Be careful of out-of-synch audio in part 2, after they've been joined. I haven't done those DVDs, but it happens sometimes with other 2 part DVDs because the audio of part 1 is sometimes shorter than the video of part 1.

you can rip the movie only with one audio track from each of the two discs and then rename the vobs of the second disc to continue from the ending vob of the first. i.e. vob_01_1 to vob_01_5 on the first and start with vob_01_6 when renaming the second.

then either load vob_01_1 into your encoder or use vob2mpeg to convert all the vobs into one long mpg.
