  1. I have a firewire input into my computer, and I have a Sony TRV 900 Mini DV camera. I want to capture from a vcr. I take the rca cables and plug them into the camera, now I can see and hear the video tape (from vcr) in my camera. I then go to plug the firewire from my camera into my computer and the screen on the camera goes blank. As soon as I unplug the firewire cable from the camera the picture is back. I thought I would be able to capture this way. Is there a way to capture from a vcr through my camera firewire out into my computer? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

  2. Check and make sure that your camcorder has the analog pass-thru feature. I believe it's DV OUT in the menu...(I may be wrong, so check your manual).

If your camcorder doesn't have the feature, your other option would be to copy the video from VCR to a miniDV tape first, then do a firewire transfer from your camcorder to your PC...or you could also get an analog capture card (just for your VCR or any analog source)...if you're OK with spending some extra.

    hope this helps.

  3. As Jtor mentions, you must enable DV out on the menu of your camcorder. Almost all Sony miniDV camcorder have a passthrough feature.
