    i have never done this type of conversion so if someone can help me out i'd really appreciate it. The footage was recorded off of a Sony Digital Video Recorder and is sitting on my desktop as a DV file that is only playable through quicktime. Someone please help!

    You should try DVD2SVCD ( the latest version ) it is a all in one s/w that also handle DV to SVCD/VCD conversion
    you can download it from doom9 site.

    try to search the "How to" column right on on left side it should be there.. thats where i learn almost all the tricks.... =)
