  1. I saw somewhere that their is software you can download that will identify the manufacturer of cd and dvd discs. I cannot find it again however and was wondering if anyone knew of where I could get it to test some dvd-r's I just purchased ? I am trying to find out from where the best dvd-r's come from for my setup. Their seems to be alot of confusion with all the marketed brands of blank media and I was just hoping to narrow that by identifying just the manufacturers. Thanks in advance.

  2. Ok, I found ADVDINFO. but I get a "Could Not Detect A DVD-ROM !" error. I have a Pioneer DVR-A04 writer on the Primary Slave IDE, and the drive works fine and shows under device manager using Windows XP Prof, but still ADVDINFO does not detect a DVD Drive.
Anyone know of any solutions or a different utility ?

XP Pro here also... hrmm... some people are having issues and others not. Very picky software. When I get home tonight I'll make sure and see if there was anything else I changed.

advdinfo will display the prerecorded information in the lead-in. Unfortunately this isn't a reliable indicator of quality as many brands display exactly the same header.

Same header, different something else (dye/quality/batch/OEM specification?)

I did this recently with as many discs as I could get my hands on, burning the same test disc and trying it on as many players as I could find. If you're interested in my results, let me know.
