  1. It seems to me that if different companys keep making cheap dvd-r then thay must be good for something. Is it data backup ?

Why would I want to use a <$1 disk if all its good for is a coaster.

  2. Because there are enough people that will buy a spindle of 100 hoping that they will work. And when they dont work, we buy another spindle thinking maybe we had a bad spindle, and then we buy real media.

  3. Well I found some good DVD-R that are cheap $39.99 a 25 pack or $79.99 a 50 pack or $139 a 100 pack that everyone has worked in my Panasonic DMR-E20 and played on every DVD Player I have tried and they look as good as the more expensive TDK's. They are Primedisc and I got them at www.shop4tech.com I have tried 2-25 pack spindles and very pleased with them, how they will work in a Computer DVD burner I have no idea, it seams though that my Panasonic DMR-E20 deck is very picky in what media it will use. This is General Use 2.0 DVD-R's.

  5. The el-cheapo's work fine with some burners and some players, but won't play on many others. If a person is just making them for personal use, they're fine. But for someone like me burning them for lots of customers, I need something that will work in most DVD players.

    DigitalGreg,

I've burned over 400 PrimeDisc DVD-r (considered cheap - $1.30) and they play on every DVD player that I've found (Apex, Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung, etc.). It even plays on my portable DVD player, the Panasonic L50 - and that thing hates ANY DVD-R. I've given plenty of copies to friends, played them on DVD-Rom players, multiple brands. Not a problem.

Now, DVD players that don't support ANY DVD-R, no soap. But that's not PrimeDisc's or my problem.

Shop4Tech will allow you to return defective media. Just don't stick a label on it, they won't take those back (no one else will either).

I disagree with the earlier post stated that companies sell defective products and consumers buy 1 and find it doesn't work and then by another. This is not sound business practice and most people buy cheaper priced disks becuase they work.

I buy my disks from Meritline priced at $39 for 25 disks. I have no problems playing them on different players, even my son's Playstation 2 plays them with no problem.

If someone wants to spend more money because it makes them feel secure in their purchase it's fine with me. But don't think because others are using a less expensive approach their purchases are less than practical.

    If it works, it works!

  9. Hey guys i'm glad some of you are having great experiences with the cheapest dvd-r's on the market. Some of you mention the proper way to return defective discs, others consider 3 or 4 coasters out of 100 to be a great success rate. I can't have either. If a customer has to return a defective disk that can cost me 40 or 50 dollars by the time the customer's order is replaced. If I have a bad batch of DVD-R's I could lose business not being able to fill orders. And I need 2X media because it burns faster and therefore costs less in labor, which is way more cost effective than saving 1 or 2 bucks per disc.

  10. Ive bought lots of cheap DVD-Rs here in the uk..The cheapest (bulppaq) were only £0.43..no minimum order and the company would replace them with another brand if they didnt work. They worked in my pc but not in most standalones. The ones i use at the moment are Datasafe Generation 3. They seem to work fine on the DVD players ive tried so far (including the rather picky PS2).

If you are in the uk try www.blankdiscshop.co.uk

They have no minumum order so you can just try 1 or 2 first to see if they are for you.
