Lately I've been finding movies (like some MGM videos) in really thin and floppy case with huge recycle cutout on the left side, and behind disc holder, wheel spokes holding the hub. They are extremely flimsy and I've managed to break the hub trying to pop a NEW movie disc out THE FIRST TIME.

I checked, it is made with plastic type 5 (5 inside triangle, on outside spine) and they are not accepted at 3 local recycling centers. I don't think there are many, if any at all, would accept this type of plastic. Looks like I'm going to have to throw these in the garbage and buy regular DVD cases.

If the company's goal is to be more environmentally friendly, they bombed badly. Not able to recycle flimsy and breakable case +cheap case that breaks more easily than regular case = more added to landfill faster than regular cases. If their goal is to get higher ISO rating and look better, I hope whoever hands out the ISO's take my rant in consideration and LOWER their number.

Anyone else thinks the company is really trying to cut corner and make a few more cents per DVD sale by using cheap case? As seeing MGM and other major studios don't sell case, I doubt they were trying to make more money selling quality case separately. If they really want to be environmentally friendly, they need to include a pre-paid mailer so I can send them broken case for them to recycle.

Broke one yesterday. Cost cutting, no doubt.

    no, no, no, no...
you got them all wrong! They're not trying to cheap out - they're saving the world!

Yeah, I've broken several of these pieces of shit lately, and yeah, none of the recycling centers in my area will take this type of plastic either.
I think they're using the recycle symbol to show that the case is made FROM recycled plastic, not that it can BE recycled.
