Problems with capturing using VirtualDub

Can someone help me? I'm using VirtualDub to capture some vids of mine, but it's dropping a lot of frames; I captured about a minutes worth of video, and VD dropped 200+ frames and it's screwing up my audio. My comp is fast enough to handle the task, so it's not that. The guide said something about DMA, but I have no idea what that it is.

Also, I'm using the Huffy vid codec, but when I try to set my resolution at 480x480 under YUY2, I get a message about unrecognized format. Can anyone explain to me what I might be doing wrong?

DMA is referring to the hard drive setting, you need to enable it, if your system supports it.

Control Panel > System > device manager > disk drives > Generic IDE > Properties > DMA enable

Sometimes codec's will only work at a particular size, sometimes they only work with the capture cards software. You need to start low and see what you can select. This may not be the size you want, capture with too high settings will result in a lot of dropped frames.

Same for audio settings, you need to see what you can do
