  1. Hi All,

Using latest nero and Ulead I cannot burn a VCD or SVCD faster than 4X.
I am using 32X Intenso CDR and a Freecom 8 speed CD Writer.

Clone CD works fine at 8X

Any suggestions where I should be looking first ?

I was considering buying a Lite-on 48X writer but see no point if I can't burn VCD's at faster than 4X

You can burn VCD's etc. at any speed your CD writer supports. Maybe your writer is not recognized correctly by NERO.

NERO is a stickler on only burning as fast as the CD-R blank says it can burn (all CD-Rs have their MAXIMUM BURN speed somewhere on their lead-in tracks (or is it the lead-out track?). NERO gives you a utility that will read this data and save it in an file for its future use (It's called CDSPEED and is in the NERO Toolkit directory).

Play around with this utility. You may be able to determine why NERO is only burning at 4X.

  4. Sorry All,
Maybe I should have been more specific.
Nero does not default to 4X - it simply turns VCD's at 8X into coasters.
I force Nero to use 4X as this is often the only way to reliably burn a CD.
It sometimes helps if all other apps are shut down inc Firewall and modem etc, but still remains inconsisitent.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

  5. I use a Lite-On 32X and burn at full speed with no problems. Does your Freecom have Burn-Proof on it? Older writers could run into trouble at higher speeds if the data wasn't streamed fast enough, especially if you were running others apps at the same time. The latest drives with Burn Proof or some variant don't have these problems and so can handle the faster burn speeds.

  6. Cheers

I think I might just buy myself the Lite-on.
