  1. I've been researching this here but getting more confused. I don't own a DVD player yet. I have 2 VCD discs that I made. One is .mpg and the other is .avi. Simply put: will these play on a DVD player? Some, all, only certain ones? Should I just go to Best Buy and hand the salesperson the disks and say, "Show me a dvd player that will play these" Are there other formats besides ,mpg or .ava that will work? I hope there are simple answers. Thanks.

For videos to play on a standalone DVD player they must be in mpg format. They also must be burnt onto CD's as S/VCD's, not standard data discs. AVI's will not play on DVD players. The guides available on the left of the screen will help you create such discs.

  3. On top of which you must have a player capable of reading CDRs/CDRWs.

If the player cannot read CDRs, you can try burning your VCDs onto CDRWs - it sometimes works.
