  1. Hi,

I had purchased a home theater with DivX & MPEG-4 support (H.264). Now I am planning to buy a camera which records HD movies in .MOV format. I believe .MOV format is the basis for .mp4 formats as mentioned on the wikipedia. Would my DVD player be able to run these movies in .MOV format or I would require to convert them first.

If I do not want to alter the video & audio format, what is the best way to change the containers.

    Regards.

Probably not. But you you might be able to change the mov to mp4 without video reconversion using a mp4 multiplexer(yamb, mymp4boxgui, avidemux, ffmpeg).

And please tell us the name of the home theatre player. Some might have more info then.

Note that if you purchased a DVD player in this system and not a BluRay player that DVD players almost never are able to play back other supported formats like Divx in high definition. So while a remuxed MOV file turned into MP4 might play if it's in standard definition, it probably won't play if it's a remuxed high definition file.

  4. Thanks for the responses.

I have a Sony home theatre DAV TZ200. It does play HD video but as I see in the user manual, there are limitations on the file size (2GB).

I expect multiplexing without video reconversion would not be a heavy process. I have an old PC P4 2.6Hgz with 512Mb RAM. Are there any hopes for it to be useful for the purpose? I would primarily require it to convert some home HD videos of 30-40 min length max.
