something's wrong with your setup. if these are your own captures, they're probably jerky because you're using a PIII 600 to do IBP compression. you max be maxing out your capability. i'm not sure why you have green dots though. make sure you have updated drivers for your ATA100 controller and that DMA is enabled for your 40G.

do you have something else to play them better? or is it possible that source quality is bad.

  3. What resolution are you capturing at? 320X240 should be manageable I would think. I have not actually used the MMC program myself, I just use VidCap32 with some timer and DirecTV channel changing routines I added. But I am able to capture 320x240 with Microsoft MPEG4V2 in real time at full bit rate without any difficulty. 640X480 is totally out of the question for my 500 Mhz PIII and for your 600Mhz as well I would think.

As far as playback goes. What bitrate are the DivX captures you are trying to play? It could be that they are just bad. I read on here sometime back about adding a setting called Gammasetting of "1" (string value) to the DDHal key in the Rage driver to eliminate some of the blockiness in MpegII and MpegIV play back. You might try searching the forum for that. I think if you search Rage Fury you will find it since I think that is where I saw it a few weeks ago.

    Hope this helps.
