What's up everyone? I'm a super newbie to VCD making and I need some help (of course). I'll just list the steps I took to burn my VCD below:
1. Used TMPGEnc to encode an AVI file into MPEG.
2. Attempted to burn my first VCD with Nero 5.5 but was unsuccessful due to a "Track Following Error" - not sure what that means. I tried to burn again on another CD Writer and this time I got this message - "Calibration area full". I wish they'd talk English as I do not know what the heck these terms mean.
3. After Nero didn't work, I used VCDEasy to create an image or BIN file of the MPEG movie file. So far so good.
4. Finally, I used CDRWin 4.0 to burn the image and it worked.
5. Now here's the messed up part. Well, I'm heading to my living room feeling all good and stuff since I "think" I've created my first working VCD. I pop the VCD in my VCD Player and "voila"........no video....however, I can hear the audio. So what's the deal here? I thought I did everything correctly. Followed the "newbie" steps on this site. I know I've got a lot to learn though. Can anybody please help me out with this issue? Thanks to all!

Does it play OK on a PC?
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war." -
Hey,
The actual AVI and MPEG files play great on my PC. I don't have a DVD reader so I haven't tested that out yet. Anyone else have any ideas?
Thanks!=JNS4Ever= -
You don't need a DVD reader, it's just a CD. Read this:

How can you play the VCD in a regular CD Reader? I thought you would need a DVD Reader to play it and actually watch the movie in your computer. Anyway, back to the original problem. Anyone else know how to solve my problem?
Thanks again=JNS4Ever= -

Hey,
Ok, thanks. Yes, the file does play both audio and video on my PC. I don't know what the problem is. What do you think it might be?=JNS4Ever= -
Hey guys, thanx for all the help. KingJohn, regarding what you told me to do, I tried that and I'm still not getting any video. I'm just about to give up on this

re- your original post:
I would not try a lot of new tools!
I would not try to create image files and things like that they will just hide the problem. Then you start having problems with other apps and get completely off track.
First I would burn another small mpeg1 (VCD) onto a CDRW and test it. If it works then you know its not a problem with nero. If you've already done this then you have already elminated 1 possible cause.
Nero should not give you an error. If its not VCD compliant you may get a warning but usually its ok to ignore unless your player won't play the file.
In that case let nero convert it to VCD.
You should not get that error from nero unless you chose invalid options like trying to create an audio CD with a VideoCD and even that won't get by Nero.
Did you use the wizard and did you select Videocd in the panel before you selected and loaded the file. Don't change the options.
If you get the same error, try to get the file specs. If you don't have any other tool, load the mpeg into virtualdub and look at "file" "file information" and see if it looks in spec ( should show no video decompressor with the number of I B and P frames plus layer I or II audio). Anything else could be the reason for the problem.
Try to demutiplex and remultiplex and/or cut a small section of the mpeg movie with the tmpegenc mpeg tools and do a test burn with the results. None of this should take very long. If you have problems with any of these options then you don't have a valid mpeg1.
