    Hi Guys,

Im on XP with WMP 11 Player. Im also using DirectVob sub 2.37 as my subtitle player or whatever you call that

I have FFDSHOW installed as well.

There has been a major problem which is that some of my video(.avi) cannot be played when their respective .SRT file is placed with it in the same folder(there are other .srt files and videos in the same folder as well but under different names though).

Once I double clicked on the .avi file, WMP loads and the DirectVob logo is as seen at the taskbar, however the movie doesnt play although WMP has loaded .

Is the .avi file corrupted?? I couldn't see it as the case as its playing perfectly after i taken off the respective .srt file... Subtitles do work with other .avi but just not this .avi and of course I have encountered this problem with other .avi as well. Therefore, its getting a bit irritating and at the same time, Im getting desperate..
Please help me with this problem, tried playing around with it for 2hours but to no avail.

Please help!! Im a troubled soul.

    Thanks in advance dudes!

  2. Try that SRT file with some other AVI file -- an AVI file that is known to work with SRT files.

You could also try a better player. Both VLC and The KM Player support srt sub playback

Alright Jagabo, done your instructions. I tried that .SRT with a .divx file and it works but of course the subtitles doesnt make sense while playing with that .divx file haha

So it seems that the .avi is having a problem?? If so, is there a definite solution to this? Or is it that .avi files cant work with .srt

And as for Gunslinger's help, do VLC and KM Player provide a definite solution cuz you know everyone hates to download something and in the end, it doesnt solve the problem

thanks for the replies but im getting desperated

They will have a better chance than WMP.

You could try opening the avi file in g-spot or media info to find out what it really is and if there is a problem with it.

FWIW - I only use WMP for playing back WMV files. I use KM Player for everything else, as WMP is, IMO, a pretty looking player of very limited ability.

SRT works with AVI files, I use them all the time.

Since the AVI file plays alone, and the SRT file works with other files, I wonder the AVI has a frame size that DirectVobSub doesn't like. It may be Mod1 or Mod2 instead of Mod4. If this is the case you'll have to reencode with a Mod4 frame size.

Maybe b-frame decoder lag is an issue? Try remuxing the AVI file and changing the packed bitstream state with MPEG4Modifier.

I'm having exactly the same problem atm, windows media player doesn't play anything. Windows classic player & others will play the .avi with the sub file attached too. But..

The only grief i'm getting is that whenever i encounter one of these .avi's that don't like subtitles they will not play on my dvd player when i burn it. - unsupported media is the excuse. I've tried it with the .srt seperate or "combined" with sub workshop & the subtitles & avi still don't get along.

I'll give mpeg4modifier a go but does any1 have any suggestions for correcting these weird avi problems?

    **Nope - mpeg4modifier didn't help. Any1 with any advice?
