well we all know that if we use dvd2avi we'll have a really really big wave file. I was wondering is there a program that would convert that wav to ac3 ??????

Where did the .WAV file come from? Most DVDs have an .AC3 track that you can use directly. I have YET to see a commercial DVD with audio encoded as a wave file.

Yes, Sonic Foundry Soft Encode will convert wav files to .ac3
Im not sure where you can find it though...you will have to look around. -
when you rip the dvd using smartripper choose the stream processing tab, select the audio track you want and select demux to extra file and it will create an .ac3 file for you which most dvd authoring packages will accept
