Have a movie on disc which is svcd. Don't know what was used to rip and encode. When I copy the mpg to my drive and try to reencode to vcd using tmpgenc it will not open "cannot open - or unsupported" virtual dub gives "pack synchronisation error". I have only ever used tmpgenc so have never come across an mpg file I cannot open. It will play with windvd, and reports as svcd at 2500 bitrate in properties. What to do?

  2. Try DVD2AVI with TMPGenc.

  3. Same situation on my new Shuttle SS40G, no DVD drive so converting SVCD's would need a workaround, some reason I have yet to track down but several mpeg2 codecs are installed but TMPGEnc still won't open mpeg2 files.

I use DVD2AVI and open up an SVCD MPEG file I want to encode but can't open directly with TMPGEnc. Save a project file in DVD2AVI as a D2S file and a WAV file for the audio. Set TMPGEnc to open up the d2s file for the Video Source and the WAV file for the Audio Source and there you have it.

SVCD conversion without the use of a mpeg2 codec.
