  1. I have an avi that I want to encode to mpeg. I ran Vdub to save the audio as a .wav and got an error, quote- "The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format." I then checked the file properties with Vdub and this is the audio details:
    sampling rate..................48000Hz
    channels.........................2(stereo)
    sample precision..............0-bit
    compression....................Unknown(tag 2000)
    preload skew...................12000 samples(0.25s)
    # of frames.....................76019
    min/avg/max/total frame size....12/1001/12000(74321K)

How can I find out what format the audio is in? What can I do to fix it? Thanks for any help.

  2. Why don't you just encode straight to MPEG from AVI?
Why do you want to extract a WAV from the AVI?

If your hell-bent on extracting a WAV from the AVI and VirtualDub won't do it then try opening up the MPEG in TMPGEnc and then go to

File > Output to File > WAVE File

change the setting on theu quality of the WAV file and choose a directory to store the WAV in and then hit SAVE

Saving a WAV file fromm an AVI in TMPGEnc takes only a couple of seconds.

If that doesn't work you should just frameserve the AVI with Virtual Dub and if your encoder can't read VDR sign posts just use AviSynth script to point to the VDR sign post or use VFAPIConv and create an usable AVI that way.

  3. Sounds like you might need a sound codec - try the Nimo codec pack (in the tools section, I think).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
