  1. Hello
I have been trying to capture 16:9 footage filmed on a Canon Camcorder with Premiere 5.1 via a MotoDv capture card. I have followed the steps in the manuals very carefully...selecting 16:9 under Device Control, selecting the appropriate 16:9 SoftDV capture codec, etc. I am capturing footage with no problem, but the video still has the "squished" look on my computer screen (I understand it should look that way on my camcorder screen). I have created Quicktime files from the footage that I captured but they don't appear any wider than a 4:3 image. Am I missing something? Any help is greatly appreciated in advance!

    Thanks
    Chris

  3. I have a Sony which has Cinema and 16:9 mode. I think that the 16:9 is anamorphic mode, and would only work properly if captured with the aspect ratio of 16:9. I haven't tried that mode yet, because I don't have a widescreen, and don't really want to waste the screen space on my TV with the black bars.

I wish I had a 16:9 television, so I could mess with it though. If I am totally wrong, don't flame me. I am simply guessing here.

  4. I just thought of something else... I use ZoomPlayer for playback on the computer. It has settings of aspect ratio when you play the file (i.e. Same as source, 16:9, 4:3, etc.) I would bet changing that setting to 16:9 might solve your problem when playing back on the computer (assuming you encode in MPG, AVI, etc.)

    Let me know what happens...
