  1. Is there a firmware update for this console dvd player? I mostly need it to play dvd-r. I am ready to put this thing out to the curb and go buy another dvd player. one person wrote that he had a problem with the same player and he installed a firmware update for this unit however there doesnt seem to be any firmware on the toshiba website...is there somewhere else i should look?

The person wrote in the report for this player "Would not play DVD-R as came from the factory. After updating firmware to latest revision, DVD-R now plays. Haven't tested DVD-RW yet. DVD-R authored and burned with Sonic DVDit PE 2.5. "

Is there really a way to get this thing to accept burn media?

    Thank you much in advance....

  2. Problem is...will it play CD-r or rw's ????

I have a Mitsubishi DD-4000/4001 and it will not PLAY ANYTHING !!!!

There's a hack on the web to upgrade the firmware.....

but if the player won't read ANYTHING BUT PRESSED DISCS !!! HOW IN THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSE TO UPDATE IT !!!

There's lots of BS info floating around...just becarful of "hacks" or firmware that's not made by the company...

  3. Thank you very much for replying...

I am very angry at toshiba for creating a player that has no support at all!!!...now i gotta find someone to unload this thing on to. I have a samsung (i forget the model cuz im at work) and that takes everything i throw at it. It plays mp3 disks like crap though...(skips a lot)

Anyways maybe the person that wrote a review here was refering to a pc dvd player by accident that they updated the firmware on...as you wrote there is no other way to update the firmware without cracking the unit open and popping chips off and on the board...

well, i guess im off to best buy with a dvd-r vcd and a svcd in hand and im gonna check the models in the store before i buy them...
