Just a little too big...

Alright, so I've download a movie in the Avi format (the nice two Avi DVD rip of Black Hawk down). So anyways, even if I try to put it onto four discs, each Mpeg will be about 950 megabytes. So, what's the easiest way to reduce the size? I saw in Nero for SVCD's that it can try to fit the movie on the disc automatically, but not for VCD's. What am I to do?

The original 2 files you downloaded were AVI ??? yes !!!

What size are they ???

If they are slightly bigger than 720MB each you can make them slightly smaller, but I havn't worked out how yet, see my forum entry reducing AVI file size

Ok im assuming 4 disks is what it would take using the maximum SVCD bit-rate, you can reduce the amount of disks by lowering the bit-rate, use the VCDHelp bitrate calculator from Tools <<<. Enter the amount of CDs you want to use and the movie length, and it will give you a bitrate to enter into Tmpgenc.. Remember that lowering the bit-rate will degrade picture quality. I wouldnt go below 1900kbs for SVCD r you might as well make a VCD...

ukcalibrauk, you are getting confused, or going to confuse the original poster. The question was how to convert to SVCD and fit on X discs. Vdub will allow you to re-encode as lower bitrate divx (.avi) but will not produce SVCD format mpegs, for that, as said, Use Tmpgenc. To get it smaller, lower the bitrate in TmpGenc. To do this, load the SVCD template, then load unlock.mcf from the TmpGenc extras folder. Then click the settings button, and on the video tab, next to the Rate control mode options, is another settings button. Click this and select the bitrate you want.

Yeah it did. I've also just noticed something that pisses me off. You see, I downloaded all the Star Wars movies, which were all excellent quality (they were avi's). Anyways, I made them all into mpegs, burned them, and watch them on my Sony DVD Playa only to find out that they have a weird distortion to them. So I looked at the settings in TMPGEnc (mostly still defaults) only to find in the settings thing to see that it was set to Full Screen and not Full Screen and keep ratio. Just thought I'd let y'all know, this is important stuff to know (n00bs suck, wait I'm a n00b!).
