Hi!
My intention is to burn 2 Movies to a DVD-R 4.3 GB.
My idea is to make a SVCD rip of each movie so each will take about 2.1 GB including audio. Each Video muxing into 100MB segments and adding all segments of both movies into VCDXTools to write a XML file and creating the CDRAO images to drop in a Toast CDROM XA mode setting.
Can I burn this to a DVD-R? Is it possible to burn CDROM XA mode to DVD-R? Will my stand alone player accept this? (SVCD CD-R disks are no problem!)
Is it possible to generate a xml file including all these mpgs which brings nearly 4.2GB data to write the CDRAO image files?
Before I try it (and this will take time & energy) I ask you ... maybe you already did it or got bad experiences!?
Thanx for replies!

Your burning app will reject the DVD media if you try to burn CD-ROM XA sectors on it.

Yes, I noticed at this afternoon.... Toast tells me directly that "you cannot write CDROM XA-mode on a DVD"
But ... if I build a DVD in DVD StudioPro, importing the mpgs (in 480x567), adding the audio in form of ac3 files .... building the DVD disk image, burning the DVD in Toast .... does the stand alone player know how to strech this PAL movie content (480x567) video to 720x567 back while playback from this kind of a burned DVD? -
Video with SVCD resolution (480x480 NTSC 480x576 PAL) is not part of the official DVD Video format specs. You can author a DVD this way, and some DVD players will play it fine, but many others will not.
Instead, encode your video at 352x480 NTSC or 352x576 PAL. This is referred to as "1/2 D1" or "D2" resolution and IS part of the official DVD Video specs. The DVD player will stretch it back to fullscreen at playback. Use a bitrate calc to determine the bitrate to fit both movies on one DVD-R. Bitrate of 2Mbit/s should give around 4 hrs with very good quality. Encode the audio at 48Khz in either MPEG or AC3.
