Is my cdburner bad?

when I burn vcds sometimes when I play them back on my set-top dvd player they get choppy and squeaky and freeze up and become unwatchable. I usually happens on the 2nd cd right in the middle of the movie. If I burn at 1x it seems to work best...but that's ultra slow to burn. If I watch the mpg file on the computer it's fine. I've tried air dusting out the cdrw drive and things seemed okay until it recently happened again. Do you think I should get a new cdrw drive? If so, which one is recommended?

I had a similar experiance with my Ricoh MP9060a. Now I know Ricoh was only meant to make copiers and not cd burners. Worked ok at max speed for awhile(6x) then I had to bump it down to 2x to avoid errors. This motivated me to buy a new one. I got a Plextor 40/12/40a, works great, burns a full cd in about 4min. on my system. These are a bit more expensive(I wanted one that would last), but if you're strapped for cash, a lite-on would be just as good. You can get a good 40x lite-on w/ nero for $75.
