  1. I have been capturing ok from VHS with my ATI Radeon 7500. Suddenly I'm getting a slight scratchy sound on the captures. I've tried changing the cables, re-installing my soundcard on a different PCI slot, but to no avail...

    Any ideas? I guess it might be something simple I'm overlooking.

    Thanks

    Bok

    edit: I'm using a soundblaster live 5.1 connected to the ATI card for sound btw

    I noticed when I get scratchy audio, I load the file into Gold Wave. If the graph shows my audio as going off the chart, I use the noise reduction function to bring it back down.

    It also seems to make the audio sound even clearer after I multiplexed the wave file back into the video. I also read in this forum that the problem may be caused by the recording line in is set too high.
    Hello.

  3. regarding the volume, in Vdub I use the audio meter to set the gain. In MMC 7.6, I had to set the volume (and input) in the registry. The value that MMC set initially was too high. Let me know if you want more specific Registry key settings...

  4. If you have a VIA chipset with SBLive, it might be due to the pci latency.
    There is a VIA PCI latency patch somewhere at viahardware.com

  5. Some good tips, I'd already tried the PCI latency patch which crashed the machine..

    In the end, I pulled the SB live out of the machine and have fallen back on the on-board audio. This is not as good, but no scratchiness!!

    So, I'm looking for a new soundcard, any recommendations? Thinking about a turtle beach one at the moment..

    p.s. I tried that SB Live in another machine with the same results, so it's in the trash !

  6. Here's how I solved it

    Goto your volume contro panel(usually found in system tray near the clock)
    Click files--> properties
    An "Adjsut volume for" menu should come up, click on 'recording' and hiot ok, a new bar should come up with the volumes of each recording device. Use the device yer capture is using(usually either Line-in on ATI/all in wonder or Tv tuner audio. Adjust the volume contol down and try it. Keep adjusting it til you get something you like. It solved all scratchy problems with an ATI 7500
