LITE-ON 16xSPEED DVD ROM DRIVE
LITE-ON 24xSPEED CD-RW
ALL ABOVE IS INCASED IN A SUNTEK VIPER FULL HIGH TOWER CASE
15 INCH MONITOR
PAIR OF STEREO SPEAKERS
NOW THE PROBLEM.....
Ever Since i've upgraded to the above specs, i've had this problem that i can't seem to get sorted and i'm at my wits end and ready for taking a Hammer to the whole lot.
When you install most types of main software you are always required to restart your PC so that windows can install it properly.
Well here is where my problem lies,
By right, my pc is meant to shutdown and the monitor is meant go into standby mode and a few seconds the PC reboots and the MONITOR is suppose to come back on and windows reboots normanly.
When i do this the PC will shut down and the monitor will go into standby mode and remain in standby mode while the harddrive continues to reboot to a certain point, what point i don't know because of the Monitor not being on but i know it does not reboot completely because i do hear the winXP startup music.
When i turn my Monitor off and on using the on/off switch i get a bouncy red/green/blue single saying something like frequency out of range, i then have to hold the power button on my Towercase for 5 secs to switch
off the PC altogether, at this point i should be able to switch it back on and continue as normal,
WRONG!!!....
I then have to wait untill i hear the Beep when you switch on your PC and at this point the monitor will come back on but all this can take between 5 and 10 mins of trying.
The problem first arosed when i installed my etheret card for my cable modem but i was able to fix this by using a different card, but then the same problem came back.
I'm no longer on Cable, but i'm using ADSL without any etheret card and the problem still remains
I contacted the Mobo's technical support at Giga-byte's webpage to ask them what it could be, and they suggested that i make sure that all my BIOS settings where on default settings, well they where and it still didn't fix the problem.
The motherboard itself works perfect except for this problem.
I've tried different Graphics cards, different tower case's (thinking that it might be the Tower Case), downloaded all the latest drivers for everything, done numerous formats and clean reinstall's of Windows Xp Professional, Windows 98se etc, tried it with just the graphics card installed, and numerous other combinations all to no avial.
So today was the final straw, i dug out my old P3 Mobo with 600mhzcpu installed that into the Tower Case, installed the Chaintech Craphics Card, done a clean install of WInXP PROFESSIONAL got the latest nvidea drivers for the card Shutdown and restarted the PC 20 times without any problems so its not the Graphics Card or the Monitor.
So Guys any Help suggestions or anything in General would be most welcomed.
Thx in advance

check out the bios and make sure your video card isnt sharing an irq port with another one of your cards.
this happened to me when installed an ide pci card.. the only thing was my monitor wouldnt come on at all. so i went in to the bios, moved the irq's around a bit. she worked just fine after that. -
Wouldn't it be great if all the power saving functions actually WORKED well together? *sigh*
Sounds like your monitor's "green mode" is just not playing well with the same on your newer hardware. I see this happen a lot with older monitors, which I am assuming yours is since it is only a 15".
Also, if it were my system, I would make sure that ALL "energy saving" abilities are turned off both in the hardware and software. This means the BIOS of the PC, the Power Management in your OS, not to mention speacial features of any cards. An example would be a lot of newer NIC card drivers that allow themselves to be powered off to save energy.
Yeah, there's a good idea!
Try this with your cool new hardware which makes me jealous and see if this helps. if not, snag a newer monitor (or even sometimes a different brand will help) to test and see if the issue can be reproduced. I'm sure you'll be able to get to the root of the problem sans application of hammer!
Many thanks to Al Gore for bringing Energy Star to all our computers and causing so many fun problems
ps: Don't even get me _started_ on "hibernate" LOL!
Cheers!

K Guys thx for replying.
Jeex i done what you said, i change the irq ports around a bit and made sure they aren't sharing, but it still does not work.
Ataraxia i'll give your advice a go but i doubt if it will work, i more than likly have to buy a new Monitor anyway cause this one is getting on a bit.
Anyway guys thanks for the info and offers of help -
Yep, if it doesn't fix your problems when you have disabled all the power saving stuff completely, then it's likely that your monitor just doesn't speak the same power saving language as your vidboard.
I see this a lot with older monitors and newer PCs. All of my bench monitors at the shop are older 15" ones, and sometimes you just run into that.
Also, sometimes your monitor and graphics board can just be straight-out incompatible due to some comm. spec. weirdness. For example... A couple of years ago, Dell Dimension Lxx series PCs with an Intel 810 based on-board graphics would not talk to a popular 17" KDS brand monitor. Go figure
Best of luck to you!
