  3. extract the sound using virtualdub or tmpegenc mpeg tools and then use an audio editor like cooledit to extract just the left channel.

you must not know how to use a search engine

As to your problem, since you didn't tell us what your trying to accomplish i can only assume that you have a bi-lingual vcd(left side is one language-right side is another). The process of converting this is not very easy. Matter of fact, for the average newbie, it is extremely hard. Easiest solution? just unplug the right channel while you watch your vcd, or turn the balance all the way to the left.

Here's the low down on what you need to do, if you were to convert it.
1: In tmpgenc use mpeg tools to extract the mp2 audio file out of the mpg (demultiplex)
2: Open the mp2 file in cooledit and remove the right channel (copy the left channel over so that it is stereo.
3: Save this file out as an uncompressed wav.
4: Use tmpgenc to reencode this wav to an mp2, (using the <Audio Only> instead of <System stream (video+audio)>
5: re-multiplex this newly created mp2 file back into the original mpg in tmpgenc with mpeg tools <multiplex>

--On a side note, do not keep "bumping" your thread. Its not very nice and the mods do not appreciate it at all
