  1. The latest version of DVD2SVCD supports 5.1 sound. Is it any bitrate calc who supports 5.1 sound? And where can i find i-authour? Does the sound get same as on the dvd? And does it take much extra space when using 5.1 instead of 2ch?

First off you need to find out if your dvd player and reciever combination even supports 5.1 with svcds because almost none do. If you don't have a philips dvd player than you can probably give up on 5.1 audio in svcds. If you do have a philips player than check to make sure your reciever has the multichannel mpeg audio logo. If its not there than it won't work.

I don't know if any bitrate calculators support this or not but its not too hard to just figure it out yourself since svcd audio is cbr. Just figure out how much bitrate you want to use per channel and multiply it 5. Most bitrate calculators will let you put in 2 audio tracks at bitrates up to 384kbits so you shouldn't have trouble matching the total bitrate amount, even if its not actually calculated for each of the 5 channels.

I-Author is made by Enreach Technologies and I'm not sure whether its still distributed. You could probably e-mail them and ask if you can purchase it from them but its not cheap. There are no demo versions available either. Multichannel mpeg audio can literally have the same level of quality as Dolby Digital so yes, it is basically as good as the source dvd is encoded correctly. Yes it does take quite a bit of extra space with the extra channels but of course how much depends on the bitrate you choose to use.
