Hello pals,
My standalone DVD player plays SVCD with audio encoded to both MPG 1 Layer II and Layer III - which is actually MPG-3. At a determined bit rate, the file size in both cases is exactly the same. Is there any difference in quality, for the same bit rate, between the two?
Thank you all.

For a given bitrate MP3 will give better sound quality as it compresses better. However MP2 has better error checking capabilities so is used for transmission. A 224k MP2 is roughly equivilant to a 192k MP3.
