    Hi --

I'm trying to help someone burn a DVD because he doesn't have that hardware on his computer.

We have a series of .mpg files for which the audio portion is especially important. First I tried converting the batch of audio files to DVD using ConvertX to DVD. That worked fine except in the resulting DVD each .mpg file was separate and it was necessary to keep clicking Play to make the series continue.

Next I tried Total Video Recorder to combine all the .mpg files. The resulted in a total loss of audio.

My last effort was to use Windows Movie Maker to create one .avi file (which I planned to convert to DVD if it worked). This was also unsatisfactory because the movie appeared to freeze at certain points, probably where the various .mpg segments started and stopped, and the audio was totally messed up.

We want to end up with a DVD that can be played on all stand-alone DVD players without having to click at the end of each segment and with good audio quality. Can anyone suggest what I might try next?

    Thanks.

You do realize of course that it will be limited by the quality of the dvd blanks you use? Not all blanks are created equal. Use tayo yuden discs for best results.

I second the tempengc dvd author suggestion. Though just about any dvd authoring program should work on combining mpgs into one title. Again you must be sure they are dvd compliant before they can be accepted.

That link has the specs you need. Use ntsc for US discs.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I do not know what mpeg files you have, but check the site "yoda" gave you for dvd spec.
Than any authoring tool will produce DVD. TDA, Nero, Roxio are just few.
If you want to get sophisticated try DVD Lab.

Everything is fine up until playback i will assume, as you've mentioned that they play ok from convertx to dvd.

This is an authoring issue as you want them to ALL continually play. You have all of the 'separate' files from the above app. TDA i find very useful as an authoring app and would be ideal for you (as previous posters mentioned).

Options open to you to name a few are: to have a simple menu with all of the mpg files in their own little thumbnail ('ADD TRACK' option) and you can play them at your discretion. Do the same but this time have a command (during menu set up) to play the 'next track' automatically (no pressing 'play'). Or you can 'join' them together ('ADD FILE' option) for continuous playback (either ALL files or whichever ones you want). Consider it as a mere track menu-all individual 'tracks' or simply ONE track with all of them joined together.

    Hope's it helped.

Thanks, everybody. I think I'm all set. As you could probably tell, I'm relatively new to this and there was a setting in ConvertX to DVD that was causing the unwanted chapters. It looks like Windows Movie Maker may have been the cause of the "Donald Duck" sound. Anyway, I tried a few other things and it looks like we're good. (It was a DVD of my boss's granddaughter's vocal performance at a talent show, so Donald Duck wouldn't do!)
