  1. I have a Pioneer DVR-104 drive, but any application that records to either
DVD-Rs or CD-Rs doesn't list it as a Recording device. My other drive
(Plextor 24/10/40A) shows up just fine, but programs like CDRWin don't show
it as a recorder (the DVR-104 drive that is). Anyone have any clue how to
    fix this?
    Thanks.

  2. Hey i am having the exact same problem.
Primo says that it could not find a compatible recorder installed on the PC, yet on the recorders tab it does show the Pioneer DVR-104 there.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  3. It could be that you need the update to the PX Engine. It's very hard to find on the Veritas website, but here is a link to it (current as of 8/4/2002)

    http://www.veritas.com/us/products/recordnow/drivers/

look for the "Download Px Engine" link on that page.

I think I've also solved my problem from before and it's quite simple. The programs I was using to burn quite simply didn't support my burner drive. There were other programs that did, so I started using those.

This may be a long shot, but I encountered something vaguely similar this past weekend.

Do you see the drive in Windows Explorer?
I installed MS Media Player 7.1 and then applied the patches via Windows Update (in Windows 2000). My 2 CD drives disappeared and the Device Manager showed errors loading the driver for the drives. I ended up uninstalling Windows Media player (reverting to the bare-bones original one which suits me just fine) and re-installing Roxio Easy CD Creator.

My other PC with a DVD writer and DVD-ROM is still OK with the Media Player updates, Prassi and a few of the Roxio tool programs.

You might also try going to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, selecting Media Player, then add/remove components in the install process, and removing the Adaptec CD Burning Plug-In. That conflicted with my other CD burning software.

As I said, this is not quite your problem, but probably worth investigating to eliminate as a possibility.
