This only works if you have RCA inputs on a digital camera (mine is a sony trv320).
Connect the vcr to the camcorder with RCA, then connect the camcorder to the computer via firewire. Enable 'a/v -> dv out'. Voila!
That is how I duplicate my legally purchased, macrovision copy inhibit ridden vhs tapes. I just did that on a recent tape on which there was a big macrovision spash sequence. Furthermore, the 'copy inhibit' thingy does not work.
So if you have a D8 camcorder like mine (not sure about regular mini-dv ones) you also have a nice macrovision free capture card.

i dont have any problems with copying dvds even with macrovision... copying to vhs that is... am i meant to be able to do that... i don't think i am.... but i dont have any troubles

I own a Canon ZR45MC MiniDV camcorder, and it will NOT pass thru Macrovision-encoded video. I connected my VCR to my camcorder, connected the camcorder to FireWire on my PC, enabled AV > DV, and when I played thru the tape, I got a message on the camcorder screen stating that the video was protected and could not be dubbed. A black screen with no audio was passed to the PC.
I am not trying to do anything illegal. I am simply trying to convert some of my old, degraded VHS tapes to a digital format so that I can preserve them. Technically speaking, this may be illegal, but considering a lot of my video tapes are not available on DVD (yet) what am I supposed to do? While I respect a company's right to maintain copyrights, I too have an investment that I want to protect.
Time to look for a Macrovision remover box... -
With the Hollywood DV bridge, MV is filtered out.I.e. no troubles using th DV Bridge for capturing MV protected Videos/DVD
-
I guess I'll have to weigh the costs because the Hollywood DV bridge costs $200 to $300, while most of the "signal stabilizer" devices are under $100.
Anyone have any experiences with these boxes and where to get them? -
Addionally I'm using a Videoamplifier from Datavideo VP 260.As a sideeffect, the MV is filtered out.Price: around 50 Euro.

Here in Canada, London Drugs sells video stabilizers even cheaper - about $30 dollars Canadian.

I had a Sony TRV27 miniDVcam and I'm trying to pass through from my DVD to the PC but I receive a copyright notice. The manual says "you cannot record or capture the video output ...that include copyright protection signals such as the ID-2 system". There is anyway to Hack this ?
