I have a Video_TS file with subtitles. Can I extract and get rid of them. I'm converting my VIDEO_TS files to avi for HT, reducing size so I can have more on disk.

Also, if an avi file has subtitles can they be gotten rid of?

    Thank you.

If the subtitles are not hard-burned into the image, they won't be carried over in your avi conversion. Regardless, however, subtitles take up negligible space, so eliminating them is not worth the bother in any case. If space is a problem, it's better to apply additional compression to the audio or video.

As for an avi with subs, again if the subs are hard-burned, they are a fundamental part of the image, and hence not removable without leaving a hole. If the subs are in a separate (e.g., srt) file, just delete the srt file. But you'll see it's of truly negligible size.

Maybe they are 'hard burned'. I have a VIDEO_TS that has spanish subtitles and I don't see a way to 'turn them off'.

Yeah, it's not a size issue (converting VIDEO_TS to avi accomplishes the size issues), it is just a matter of not seeing the subtitles. I'll look closer at the file and see if I can determine what I have.

Yes, if the menu option for turning off subtitles doesn't exist/isn't highlighted/doesn't function, then it is probable that the subtitles have been burned into the image, rather than existing in a separate stream. In that case, you have very few attractive options, unfortunately.

  5. use dvdFab, uncheck things you don't want and extract to a new folder. Can also use VobBlanker.
